Are you taking enough time out for you?
Time out helps you reboot, recharge and scan for … all that stuff that holds you back.
As a single mum of four kids aged from 3 to 10, I cannot really do much work during the summer school break - unless I hand my lovelies over to someone else for days out etc. But there is a point to the break, and I believe it is family centred.
We spend most of the year rushing our children to and from places of childcare, ‘learning environments’, clubs and what-not. But that is not what childhood memories are made of are they? No, the real memories are of time spend without a timetable, without an agenda, without pressure to perform, but to just be free to be you. My best memories are of playing with my friend and her ponies, and of spending a week with the Grandparents, exploring the Yorkshire Moors, and arguing with my brother on the long car journey there and back from Dorset, with my Dad driving and smoking… (no wonder I got car sick back then!)
So you may not hear as much from me during August, as I gather my thoughts of how the next chapter will go - but with a break comes breakthrough!
I am having time to work my creativity - I have spent time painting (my daughter joins in), I am enjoying the beauty of nature as my younger sons love walking or running through the local woods, and I have been stargazing with my older son as he has been enjoying camping in the garden! (Yes, he got wet the other night…).
These moments are precious, and easily missed when we are just following routine.
So routine be damned!
I am having pyjama days, lazy days, and fun days.
I will be back with all sorts of ideas and enthusiasm in September, and you never know, I may be inspired to write another blog in a week or two -
What memories are you making that are special this summer?
And if you are struggling, or in a blue funk - I’m here to support you. I will always answer emails and messages, and I love to hear from you.
(And if you like paintings of cats - I can do that too!)
