Do you keep your physical health optimal?

Maintaining physical health, exercise and motivation is a problem for many of us.

I don’t often talk about fitness, physical health, and weight. There are so many experts out there that offer advice, solutions, motivation, and support. We all know it is important, and kind of take it for granted that it is something we should be actively doing something about. We know we should be taking 30 minutes of exercise a day, we know we should be outdoors as much as possible, we know we need to look after our bodies to maintain our abilities into old age. We know the benefits, to our muscle strength, our skeletons, our lung and heart function, our digestion, even our immune system, and of course out mental health.

We also have a million and one excuses for why we aren’t achieving our optimum health.

If you’re like me, you put a bit of pressure on yourself - maybe a lot! New year resolutions, getting up early to get in a new routine, find time for self care when the kids aren’t pestering you, when you aren’t working, go running, join a fitness class, and so on…

And perhaps it lasts 3 or 4 weeks. Then you miss a day or 2, or a class or 2. Slowly the habit is eroded before it is truly established. There’s often a genuine reason for the hic-up - a hurt knee, a sick child, something else got in the way that was more important. Any way, we lose track, lose momentum.

Sometimes self sabotage kicks in, we have a crazy craving for carbs, sugar or salty food, then decide it’s really so much effort, too hard. And the looping thoughts kick in , that I can’t do this, and I’ll NEVER be thin/fit/healthy as I should be.

Well! Will you look at all those Shoulds! Shoulding all over the place! :P

What if you can love your body with all its imperfection. What if your body is perfect just as it is? What if you can feel joyful with the level of fitness and curves and stuff just as you are? Can you just stop trying! Trying is just so trying!

My point that I want to make is that you can enjoy exercise at any level if you stop this inner nonsense. We have so many things that we have to get done, achieve, juggle and balance when we are mothers, wives, business owners, friends, daughters, employees etc etc etc. Stop putting more on the list. Have fun! Fun can involve walking, dancing, exercise classes, running or whatever shakes your booty! And combine this with nurturing and nourishing your body and mind with positive health providing goodness, and your body will thank you back by shedding a few pounds, by providing more energy, more resilience and so on, with a beautiful happy glow.
